My Own Two Feet
by Beverly Cleary
Why Did I Read It?
This book came in a “lot” of books I won on E-bay. At the time, someone was wishing for this on paperbackswap.com, so I thought I would go ahead and read it so I could pass it on. I generally like memoirs, anyway, and I loved Beverly Cleary’s books as a kid.
What’s it about?
Basically, it’s Beverly Cleary’s memoir, starting from when she left home for college in California, through her first book deal. (She apparently has another memoir that covers her childhood.)
Did I like it?
Ehhh – this book got great reviews on amazon, and Beverly seems like such a nice interesting person, but something about her writing style (in this book) was just boring. She didn’t go into great detail about events – rather, her story gave an “overview” of what happened.
Still, she had an interesting life, and I enjoyed reading about what it was like “back then” – so different than now – it caused quite a controversy when a young lady went to the library wearing – gasp – pants!
